Katarina Wit began skating at five. She was only five when her talents became apparent, and in Karl-Marx-Stadt she was accepted into a school specifically for kids with athletic abilities. Her coach Jutta was also in attendance. Witt made her breakthrough year in 1982 after she finished second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Her graceful style and elegance of Witt caught the eye of the world and she's dominating her sport since then. Olympic Erfolg In the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating following a heatedly-contested competition. Four years later she was able to win an even tougher competition. Witt actually fell short of the free skating contest, however she was awarded the gold medal based on her performances in the mandatory figures as well as the short-form program. Witt became the first female to be crowned champion in the men's and women's figure-skating competitions ever since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes as an acting career, but she returned to her sport to participate in her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Fans were amazed by her performance despite her having was seventh. Witt's admission into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame took place in 1995.
